"Na Roménia, o projecto de abertura de uma mina de ouro em Rosia Montana coloca uma vez mais a questão do seguimento e da aplicação das directivas europeias.
Com efeito, o Parlamento Europeu, na sua resolução de 3 de Abril de 2005 sobre a adesão da Roménia, referiu especificamente o caso de Rosia Montana, solicitando um estudo de impacto sobre os riscos ligados nomeadamente à utilização de cianeto.
Após o envio de uma delegação da Comissão do Ambiente, da Saúde Pública e da Segurança Alimentar à zona de Rosia Montana e apesar de várias intervenções – a última das quais junto do governo romeno –, não se regista qualquer evolução.
Poderá a Comissão garantir que os estudos de impacto sobre os riscos ambientais e sociais do projecto estão em curso e que esta avaliação se efectua de uma forma totalmente independente? Sem este estudo, é essencial que os trabalhos de exploração efectuados pela companhia canadiana RMGC sejam imediatamente suspendidos e que cessem as destruições de casas dos habitantes da localidade.
Para além disso, poderá a Comissão indicar quais são os investimentos financiados pelos fundos europeus nos municípios de Rosia Montana e Bucium?
Para terminar, a região de Rosia Montana, rica devido à sua biodiversidade, não é objecto de uma classificação Natura 2000; como justifica o governo romeno esta situação junto da União Europeia?
O Governo romeno confirmou reiteradamente que respeitará escrupulosamente o acervo ambiental e que o processo decisório assentará na precaução e na transparência. "

Gold has been mined at Rosia Montana, in the Apuseni mountains of West-Central Romania, since pre-historic times. The area’s riches attracted several foreign powers including the Romans. These powers carried off the precious metals to Rome, Vienna, Budapest, Berlin but left behind what has become an historical and archaeological treasure of world class.
The seams of precious metals have long been worked out but gold and silver are still dispersed in microscopic quantities throughout the geology of the area.
The project proposal is that by blasting and pulverising the landscape, the invisible gold and silver could be exposed to hazardous cyanide compounds that would separate them from the rock.
The scenery would be devastated, hills transformed into massive craters in a toxic, sterile desert.
This is a populated area. The illegal process of forced resettlement has already begun.Will these unique historical and archaeological remains be obliterated and people forced to leave their homes?
Several villages are located on the site of the proposed open-cast mine. 880 dwellings will be demolished and hundreds of smallholdings that sustain families will be destroyed. More than 2000 people will be uprooted and relocated, the majority against their informally expressed wishes. There has been no formal consultation process. This contravenes the European Convention on Human Rights, by which Romania is bound.
A large proportion of families have been established in the area for many generations. The upheaval will undoubtedly result in deaths amongst the frail and the elderly.
Apuseni is rich in resources other than gold. It has outstandingly beautiful scenery, history and rich archaeology - both ancient and industrial. It has forests and good terrain for grazing animals. There should be a viable future for the people of the area based on tourism, agriculture, timber products, craft enterprises, appropriate light industry. The alternatives would be better than a single, short-lived industry that exports any profit along with the gold and leaves a toxic desert, a devastated landscape in which life will never again flourish.

ma bucur sa vad ca au ocazia sa vada si alti situatia din tara noastra,se pare ca e destul de grava situatia,si eu am votat impotriva cianurilor,e pacat sa se distruga atata geografie si istorie.....sa speram in bine.....
